Core Alcohol & Drug Survey

The cornerstone of our grant is the administration of the Core Alcohol and Drug Survey which is run through the Core Institute at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale.  This survey provides Louisiana’s institutions of higher education a free survey to assess student substance use and/or perception of use on their campus.
The survey is administered every two years in the spring semester, with the seventh administration slated for February 2019. Previous administrations years include 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017.  Participation in the Core Alcohol and Drug Survey also satisfies assessment requirements for the U.S. Department of Education’s Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Act, which requires an assessment at least every two years.
Specific support from the U.S. Department of Education for participation in the Core Alcohol and Drug Survey can be found on page 20 of the 2006 publication Complying With the Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Regulations [EDGAR 86]: A Guide for University and College Administrators (which can be found here: http://www.higheredcompliance.org/resources/resources/dfscr-hec-2006-manual.pdf)
Additionally, results from the survey are aggregated into larger regional results and a statewide composite report.  This data is utilized by local/regional community coalitions such as the State Epidemiology Workgroup (SEW), Prevention Systems Committee (PSC) and the HOPE Council to help identify needs and select environmental strategies.
Our seventh statewide administration will take place February 6th – 20th, 2019.  If your institution would like to participate, please contact the LaCASU office.
